With so many products on the market today for computers how do you choose the best portable printer and scanner for your needs? There are several different types of scanner and printer combinations. There are the extremely large all-in-one machines that have the printer/fax/scanner/copier features generally used in large business offices. However, you may be looking for something smaller for your home or perhaps for travel purposes. Unfortunately, most manufacturers of portable devices have not yet been able to incorporate the features of both a scanner and printer into one portable scanner printer combo.
There are however several manufacturers of small portable printers that are more lightweight than the full size ones. Canon is one such company that makes a high resolution portable printer that weighs only 4.4 pounds. Hewlett Packard also makes smaller size printers. They manufacture portable laptop printers that weigh about 9 pounds. While their version of the portable printer is heavier than the Canon printer it offers more in the way of features and quality for better photo imaging.
When choosing a printer or scanner you will want to check out the resolution capabilities the items have. The higher the dpi (dots per inch) the better the image quality of the scanner or printer. In addition printers come in a variety of printing types. There is the inkjet, the laser and the snapshot printer. Inkjet printers are usually the best for people and businesses that do a medium amount of printing on a wide variety of subjects. If you or your company deals with a lot of text documents then a laser printer would probably suit your needs better especially if you incorporate color images into your documents. The overall price for the laser printing per page will be less than for the inkjet.
If you are looking for both a portable scanner and printer then you may do well to purchase the small handheld version of a scanner. It is extremely lightweight and no bigger than an elongated pen. The drawback to this type of scanner is their potential for inaccuracy in scanning. Since the unit is entirely dependent on the person’s ability to hold it, there is more room for error. To have the scanner perform optimally you would want to keep a steady flowing rhythm when pulling the scanner across the document. These handheld scanners amazingly do come with scanning resolution abilities as high as 600dpi.
When shopping for a printer or a scanner it is always best to research the types of machines available on the market today so you know what kind of choices you have. It is always wise to do some comparison shopping as computer components can run as high as in the thousands of dollars. You can also consider watching on Internet auction site for available items that would be more within your price range. Often you can pick up like new items at a fraction of the price that was paid for them.
