A Comparison Of Laser Printers And Inkjets

Laser printers and inkjet printers are widely available in the market these days. Even though the laser printer technology is newer than the inkjet, both types of printers are still in demand by different users. An inkjet printer prints the image directly by injecting the ink on the paper. A laser printer, however, uses a beam of light to print.  If one needs to compare both these printers, one could do so by looking at different features these printers come equipped with.

In case one needs to print black and white or colored documents in small quantities, an inkjet is suited for the job. This feature makes inkjet printers popular in use by households, who do not require heavy printing. The speed of an inkjet printer is slow though. A color laser printer is normally used by businesses and offices, where the quantity of printing is high. Black and white or colored printouts can be taken at a faster rate by using laser machines.

When it comes to printing images, an inkjet printer will provide the best results when it comes to a variety of colors and different artwork. A laser photo printer on the other hand may not provide the same crisp image prints as the inkjet printer would.

Inkjet printers have ink cartridges that provide the ink for printing. Therefore, printouts produced by an inkjet printer will initially be a little soggy. There is a chance of smearing the printout if one does not take care when handling a fresh print.  An inkjet printer cartridge can be expensive to purchase. A laser printer uses a toner to print. The printouts produced by laser printers are dry as they roll out.  The price of these toners is also high. The advantage toners have over ink cartridges is that they can print out hundreds of copies before running out. This is not possible with inkjet printers.

The price of a laser color printer is comparatively higher than that of an inkjet printer. This is because a color laser printer uses more advanced technology than the inkjets. If one compares the cost of keeping an inkjet or a laser printer in the long run, the laser printer takes the vote of being the economical choice.

Both devices have their advantages and disadvantages. In order to purchase either of them, one needs to see what his requirement is. If one is looking for a printer that prints top quality text documents but average quality images, a laser printer should be the choice. If one needs quality images as well as good quality text documents, inkjet should be the choice.
